Details: Following the success of the first edition in 2012, with over 200 scores submitted from all over the world, a second edition of the International Competition for a composition of sacred music "FRANCESCO SICILIANI" PRIZE has been presented in the Vatican. The Competition is a collaboration between the Fondazione Perugia Musica Classica Onlus, the Sagra Musicale Umbra Festival and the Pontifical Council for Culture, chaired by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi. The theme of the Competition is a work for choir, with or without organ, on a obligatory text, that should last between five (5) and fifteen (15) minutes. Candidates are required to set to music the entire text of the Pater Noster. The Competition is open to candidates of any nationality and without age limit. The expiry date for submitting scores is 1st June 2014.
The international Jury, chaired by the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, is made up of the following members: Gary Graden, Conductor of the Choir of Stockholm Cathedral and of the St. Jacob's Chamber Choir; Vincenzo De Gregorio, Principal of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music; Filippo Maria Bressan, Orchestral and Choral Conductor; Alberto Batisti, Artistic Director of the Fondazione Perugia Musica Classica Onlus - Sagra Musicale Umbra. The composer and music critic Marcello Filotei acts as Artistic Secretary. The final concert will take place on Saturday 13th September 2014 in the Upper Church of San Francesco in Assisi and will be part of the 69th Sagra Musicale Umbra.
The St. Jacob's Chamber Choir, conducted by Gary Graden, will perform the three works admitted to the Finals of the Competition. After the performance, the Jury will award the First Prize. The composer of the winning work will receive a prize of ?5.000 (five thousand Euros). Two prizes of a symbolic nature are foreseen: one awarded by the public present at the concert, the other by the critics.

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, who promotes and supports the Competition, will be present at the final concert and will award the prize to the winner of the Competition.
